Helping Your Kids Volunteer and Be Responsible Citizens
Many working moms would love to see their kids volunteer in the community. But so many charitable opportunities require an ongoing commitment. Or perhaps even carving out a single hour from your weekly schedule seems an impossible feat.
Our 15-year old had trouble finding a summer volunteer opportunity that fit her busy camp and music schedule. The local hospital wanted an 80-hour time commitment from candy stripers; another health organization only accepted older teens.
Eventually, she ended up volunteering about 20 hours in her sisters' daycare center. The kids loved having time together during the day. For me and my husband, it was delightfully easy to manage drop-offs and pick-ups.
This is just one way working moms can help their kids engage in civic life while also maintaining their other activities and obligations. I'd love to hear other ideas from readers!

I’m glad your daughter was able to find an opportunity for that fit her schedule. It does take some time to find things we can do to volunteer for, but it is worth the effort. If your daughter is still interested in hospital volunteer work, she may try a high school club called the Junior Hospital Volunteers. Once they have passed a medical check, the kids are taken over to see the hospital and then they can do as many hours as they wish. I have a few more ideas here.
