Thrifty Thursday - Cut Your Child Care Cost
Working moms need reliable child care to succeed at our jobs. But unfortunately, the most reliable babysitter or daycare center is often the most expensive. (Unless you're lucky enough to have grandparents babysit.)
Right now, my husband and I are deciding how many days of after-school care to book for the fall. With the job market as shaky as it is, I don't even feel comfortable planning big expenses for June! So the idea of saving on child care really appeals.
One way we've cut corners without sacrificing quality is to team up with other parents in a babysitting cooperative. We trade off watching everybody's kids. Each couple gets a break during a weekend day or on Saturday night. And the kids think it's a blast to have a big play date with their friends. It usually ends too late with everyone in pajamas and giggles. Fortunately, they can sleep in on Sunday.
How do you keep child care expenses from climbing out of control? Please share your advice!
