Site of the Week: FaberMazlish.com
When I'm frustrated with one of my kids, so often I return to the writings of Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish. They offer such loving, practical, concrete techniques for communicating with your children, enforcing discipline and resolving behavioral issues. That's why I'm making FaberMazlish.com the About Working Moms Site of the Week.
Granted, this is not a Web site with lots of flashy bells and whistles. After all, Faber and Mazlish wrote their first book in the 1970s so they're hardly technological wunderkinds. But the content is so rich and relevant to parents today, that I recommend it to all my friends.
The underlying principle is to treat children with respect, while making sure they don't walk all over you. It's the most balanced, effective parenting philosophy I've come across. And even better -- it works! When I give myself a little tune-up with Faber-Mazlich, I'm able to address my children's behavioral issues with renewed patience and a firm resolve.
