On Veterans Day, Let's Thank Military Moms

Today is Veterans Day, when America honors all living veterans of military service. That includes 1.8 million female veterans, many of whom are working moms.

How will you mark Veterans Day? My husband has the day off work, so he'll be watching the kids and may take them down to see one of the many Washington, DC monuments honoring veterans. I suppose I'll catch a parade or perhaps read my children a bedtime story about veterans.

What are your plans today?

Like you, I worked yesterday. But I couldn’t help thinking a lot about my son, who is in Iraq on his second tour of duty with the Army Reserves. He’s 32, and managed to get his MBA in between deployments, but hasn’t had much use for it in Bagdad! He was not “thrilled” to be deployed again, but he has a great attitude, is determined to serve his country to the best of his ability and has tremendous respect for his army colleagues. I’m proud to be his “mom.”
