As I write advice about parenting, work-life balance and relationships, I sometimes worry that readers will assume that I think I've got it all figured out and always do the right thing. That's far from the truth. One of the reasons I write about these topics is to remind myself of my own goals in my life and relationships, for those times when I start to drift from the path.
This is one of those moments. We're moving in three days; I've got a head cold; and the holidays are upon us. I'm under an unusual amount of stress, and not shielding my husband or kids from it as well as I'd like.
The truth is, it can be hard to be a good wife and mom. At least for me! Yesterday I ended up snapping at my husband for suggesting that perhaps not every book I've read in the last 15 years needs to be displayed in our new home. And this morning I lost my patience with my kids over the endless dawdling on the way out the door to school.
So today I'm rereading my own articles on how to have a happy marriage, bonding with the children, work-life balance and resolving to do better next time. Fortunately, this is a good time of year for resolutions and fresh starts!
Am I the only one who needs reminding?

Katherine,

I hope the move goes smoothly! I’m sure your family appreciates all that you do. And for what it’s worth, I think it can be a good thing for our kids to realize we’re not perfect. (I like to think it might lessen the pressure on them someday, when they’re in a similar position, raising kids of their own, etc…)
Jen
Katherine,
Have really enjoyed reading your articles, some of the ideas do work. Hope everything goes well with your move. And to give back some of your own advice, take it easy!
