Maria Shriver has had many chapters in her life: as the niece of Jack and Bobby Kennedy, a broadcast journalist, wife to movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger, mother to their four children and First Lady of California. Most recently, she started an ice cream company, Lovin' Scoopful, with her brother Tim Shriver, which donates 25 percent of profits to the Special Olympics and other charities.
As Schwarzenegger's term as governor draws to a close, Shriver is looking ahead to the next act in the story of her life. Will she devote herself to social entrepreneurship? Women's causes? Or reinvent herself in a totally new way?
"I'm totally, perhaps more than ever before, a work in progress. A book that needs a new chapter," she said in a telephone interview with a group of bloggers. "For a long time, I was saying, 'I need to figure it out.' Now I'm just trying to be open to ideas that come my way."
She also discussed the importance of bringing men into the work-life balance discussion and her hopes for her children. Please let me know what you think of my interview with Maria Shriver on work-life balance!
