My back to school planning is well underway -- a good thing, given that the first day is only three weeks away. Aftercare and activity checks have been mailed and the back to school picnic and parent's night are on the family calendar. I've also tried to clear my work calendar a bit, to leave room for unexpected events, hiccups or the need for some extra comforting from mom.
This year, I'm determined that back to school will not throw me into a tizzy. I'll finish the remaining back to school shopping this weekend and get the kids into a healthy sleep routine over the next two weeks. It doesn't have to be all-consuming if you focus on the basics: back to school supplies, ample sleep and the calendar of activities and child care.
That means, unfortunately for my kids, no agonizing over the perfect backpack or notebook. Limited choices as to afterschool activities and playdates with friends. And those few other things that keep working parents sane during the back to school season.
What are your plans for back to school? Any tips you can share to keep everything manageable?
