My kids have been in camp for most of the summer, so you wouldn't think the back-to-school transition would be so challenging. After all, they wake at about the same time, breakfast and get dropped off at about the same time as the school day. But the experience of sitting at a desk or table for much of the day is far different than the active play they get at summer camp.
So I've been trying to prepare them for the back-to-school transition by introducing more structured time in their days, whether reading quietly or enjoying a puzzle or game. We're also getting stricter with the bedtime and morning routine. (Although I've never been one to allow pajamas after the breakfast dishes are cleared -- no matter the season.)
What are things like in your house at this busy time of year? Are you holding onto the relaxed quality of the summer? Or is it slowly slipping away?

The lazy mornings and evenings are fast slipping away.
It’s always a challenge getting the schedule right again for school. I have had my clock set one hour ahead for quite some time but nine o’clock seems the earliest bedtime, I can get. My son is always excited with ideas and wants me to tell him a scary story! We try to have a family dinner everyday and preparing the meal always mucks up the schedule. My goal is get to the bedroom by 7:45p.m. Hopefully, he’ll be fast asleep by 8:30 p.m. Wish me lots of luck.
Have a great week.
