10 Solutions for Managing Difficult Employees

A lifetime ago, I worked in an office with a grumpy receptionist. She was always muttering under her breath, complaining about missing her lunch break or people failing to follow office procedures. And forget about the possibility that she might ever crack a smile.

But rather than taking the approach most of the staff did (avoidance), I decided to take an interest in her. To kill her with kindness, and take her complaints seriously. At the least, I tried not to add to her burden by violating office protocol myself. With a few months, I swear, her attitude was improved. At least towards me!

Not all situations with difficult employees are so easily resolved, but doing nothing is never the solution. Have you found ways to manage challenging co-workers or bad bosses? Please share them in the comments section below.
