I Sing the Praises of Carpooling

By December 27, 2012

Today is a rare Thursday when my husband isn't carpooling to work. Usually he enjoys the time to chat with his colleague, not to mention the money saving advantage of cutting his gas and parking costs -- and the environmental benefit. But today he wanted to be home as soon as his work is done, since our girls are on a school break.

When our little girls were still in day care, our whole family carpooled together in the morning. Sure, it was a bit more hectic getting everyone out the door at the same time, but we had more time to connect on the ride to drop-off. For a while we only needed one car for the whole family.

I also love the convenience of carpooling with other families when the kids have birthday parties on the weekends. If one parent can drive there and the other drive back, you've stretched a 90 minute kid-free window into two hours or more.

Are you a fan of carpooling? Do you use it for the work commute or just for personal outings?
