I've never worked for a company with a formal employee evaluation and advancement program. But the annual review is almost impossible to avoid. It was almost more pressure to have only one shot a year to make a case for a work promotion or raise.
Of course, I took hours to review my work performance and gather my accomplishments together to present to my supervisor. It's an awkward thing to do -- sell yourself -- but definitely necessary.
How do you prepare for the annual performance review ritual? And do you set up reminders during the year to keep you on track, making it less of a chore to write a self-evaluation?
